'Mary Had a Little Lamb..... '
Modelled by Max Bochmann., c. 1910

 

 

This is an original true to the period, Meissen Art Nouveau nursery figurine modelled by Max Bochmann.  Depicted is a sweet young lady in bonnet and boots, clutching a bunch of Spring flowers, a lamb standing at her side nuzzling the sweet scented flowers.

She stands on a square, raised base with canted corners, tufts of grass and flower heads scattered around her feet.

 

6¼ inches (16 cm) high x 4 inches (10cm) wide.

'Allegory of Fire'

A Charming Meissen Putto Figurine
after the Model by J.J.Kaendler , c. 1900

 

On offer here then is this very charming figurine of a cherub or putto making drinking chocolate.

The near naked cherub, but for a strategically placed drape and shoulder sash is depicted here
seated on an Empire period stool in front of a brick hearth upon which is a small fire on which
a kettle is broiling. To his left is a marble topped tripod table upon which stands a chocolate pot and matching cup and saucer, the contents of which he is stirring with a wooden whisk.

 

4¼ inches (10.8 cm) high x 4½ inches (11.4cm) wide.


 

'Apollo with Slain Dragon and Lyre'
A rare Meissen Porcelain Mythological Figurine, c.1890

 

Originally modelled by J.J. Kaendler, Apollo is depicted here seated beneath a fruiting tree,
in a gilt-flowered maroon cloak, playing his lyre, a quiver of arrows at his side and
a slain dragon and a bow at his feet, on a circular and rocky mound base applied
with green foliage and a ribbon tied laurel wreath to the lower perimeter.

9 inches (22.7 cm) high x 5½ inches (14cm) wide

'Pierrot' in Supplicant Pose

from Diaghilev's Ballets Russes' production of 'Les Carnival'

Modelled by Paul Sheurich c.1912

a marvelously emotive and finely modeled, Meissen porcelain figurine of Pierrot after the original by Paul Scheurich (1883-1945).

Dramatically depicted is the woebegone Pierrot character from 'Le Carnival',
as staged by Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in Berlin in 1910.

 He is kneeling on his left leg on a white base in the position of a supplicant, his hands clasped, his head tilted upwards.

The particular production of Le Carnival upon which this character is based,
was choreographed by Mikhail Fokine with music by Robert Schumann and
costume and set designs by Léon Bakst.

' Snarling Wolf '

A Fine Meissen Porcelain Animalier Figurine.

Meissen porcelain recently acquired from a private collection.

On offer here is this well modelled and rare Meissen porcelain figurine of a snarling wolf,
portrayed here with his head turned dexter, somewhat cowering but with snarling open jaws.

His fur is well defined in black and light brown with a white underbelly and his tail
(brush) is depicted in submissive mode, lying between his legs.
